Press kit
The Guide to Everything is an iPhone app that retells every subject on Wikipedia in the voice of a dry, slightly weary editor.
Status: coming to the App Store. This page will carry the link, and the release date, when there are any.
In a paragraph
The Guide to Everything takes any article of Wikipedia and retells it in the voice of a contributing editor: deadpan, British, and mildly aggrieved on the subject’s behalf. The facts are Wikipedia’s; the tone is not. Each entry says at its foot who wrote it, and where the author was a machine it says so. There is no account, no advertising and no tracking.
Facts
- Platform: iPhone, iOS 18 or later.
- Every entry is a retelling of a Wikipedia article (CC BY-SA 4.0), credited in the app, with the original text a setting away.
- Dark mode, adjustable text size, and a few looks of its own.
- Ask a question in search, and the answer is written in the first paragraph from the article’s own words.
- Don’t Panic: emergency numbers by region, a press from dialling.
- No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. A PIN-protected panel for parents.
- Made by one person. Contact: theguide@samdyatt.com.
Please say
- That the entries are retold from Wikipedia and credited to it, and that the app is not made or endorsed by Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation.
- That the retelling is written by a computer and that the app says so at the foot of each entry.
